Treatment Process
Every patient has unique needs. Each new patient fills out an in-depth intake form describing what is going on with their health, what their health concerns are, and what they would like to achieve. I look at the whole picture of their health including what are the imbalances, what are the causes of their issues, and how they can be resolved.
Because each patient is different, each herbal medicine prescription is unique. For example, if a patient comes in with headaches, I will look at what could be causing them. Is it tight muscles, stress, and what we would call “rising fire”, or is it from a deficiency or weakness like fatigue, insomnia, etc? Each different diagnosis would call for a different formula to address the existing condition.
In Chinese herbal medicine, formulas are comprised of quite a few herbs that work together to balance the person’s condition depending on their state. Are they hot, cold, damp, or dry? Chinese herbal formulas are created to work in harmony in order to bring the patient back to balance. I also use some western herbs, which are used on their own or added to formulas for their unique properties.
